After being defeated across the country on Super Tuesday, Nikki Haley is set to suspend her presidential campaign on Wednesday, according to people familiar with her decision, leaving Donald Trump as the only major Republican candidate remaining in the race.
Haley's departure clears the way for Trump to focus solely on the likely rematch with Biden in November. Trump is on track to reach the necessary 1,215 delegates to lock up the Republican nomination later this month.
She had insisted that she would remain in the race through Super Tuesday and traversed the country campaigning in states holding Republican contests. Ultimately though, she was unable to knock Trump from his path to a third straight nomination.
Haley now faces a couple of questions whether she will endorse Trump as she had signed the pledge to do so, only to renege on that pledge a few days ago, and whether she will release her 89 delegates to Trump.
Despite winning the Republican primary in the District of Columbia, her only other win was Vermont. Perhaps now, Haley and fellow Republicans will set their sights on unifying around Trump and beating Biden.
